DVD: World Series 1949 (Yankees vs. Dodgers)

It was the start of the Casey Stengel era, and the first of a record five straight World Series championships for the New York Yankees! From the golden era of baseball, this amazing DVD features Major League Baseball's official film of the 1949 World Series. With stunning black-and-white footage from New York baseball shrines Yankee Stadium and Ebbets Field, baseball film pioneer Lew Fonseca's historic film tells the entire story of New York's 5-game victory over Dem Bums from Brooklyn.

Beginning with a recap of the exciting final-day pennant clinchers by the Yankees over the Red Sox and the Dodgers over the Phillies, the film moves on to all the great moments of the series: Tommy Henrich's walk-off homer to plate the only run in the great Don Newcombe-Allie Reynolds pitching duel in Game 1; Preacher Roe's brilliance in Brooklyn's 1-0 Game 2 victory to tie the series; Pee Wee Reese and Roy Campanella homering in vain in the Yankees' 4-3 victory in Game 3; Reynolds retiring the final 10 batters in relief to preserve the Yankees' win in Game 4; and Joe DiMaggio's 5th-inning home run overshadowing Duke Snider's spectacular defense in the Yankees' Game 5 clincher. With other appearances from Carl Furillo, Gene Hermanski, Spider Jorgensen, Jackie Robinson, Ralph Branca, Carl Erskine, Yogi Berra, Bobby Brown, Jerry Coleman, Phil Rizzuto, Vic Raschi, Joe Page, and Ed Lopat, these classic star-studded lineups are a thrill to watch, and are an essential part of historic baseball lore.

Impossible to find in stores, here is your chance to add a rare piece of baseball history to your sports DVD collection. Whether you are a lifelong fan looking to re-live the Golden Age of Baseball, or a young enthusiast hoping to explore a long-gone glorious era for the first time, this is for you!
