"The Rocket" / "The Sweater" - NHL Hockey DVD

Second, you get the award-winning 1980 animated short "The Sweater", writer Roch Carrier's classic memoir of a hockey-obsessed childhood in rural Quebec. From the day he got his first pair of skates to becoming the most famed player in Canadiens history, this is the man who set the bar for hockey not only in Montreal but for the league as a whole. Newspaper photographers recall that the Rocket used to hit the puck so hard and so fast that there almost wasn't enough time to snap a picture. Teammates and officials all agree that the man who wore the #9 jersey in tribute to his first-born daughter was unstoppable. A famed example remains 1944-45 season where he scored 50 goals in 50 games including one with a 225-pound opponent strapped to his back. Clarence Campbell, former president of the NHL, describes him as 'the most exciting player I have ever seen in my life.' The same man suspended Richard before the playoffs in 1955, a move that so enraged Quebecers that when Campbell showed up at the Forum for the playoffs, his presence sparked a now-famous riot.
