This spectacular archival image comes from the 1955 season, Ernie Banks' second full season in Wrigley Field with the Cubs, when the slugging shortstop hit his stride and began his long, wonderful march to the Hall of Fame. Wearing the old plain-white zipper-top home jerseys that were replaced with pinstripes in 1957, the 24-year-old Banks began earning his nickname that season - "Mr. Cub" - by smashing 44 Home Runs, driving in 117, and earning his first All-Star berth.
