Re-live a lifetime of Habs hockey history! This amazing boxed set delves deep into the NHL archives to bring you ten original game broadcasts of Montreal Canadiens hockey. With each game complete with an introduction by the walking Habs encyclopedia himself, Dick Irvin, Jr., and many including a live interview with one of the main principals of the game presented (for the first game in the set, an interview with none other than the great Jean Beliveau), each of the ten discs included is both an action-packed NHL thrill ride, and a historical document of an important night in team history. Included are the following memorable games:
1960 Stanley Cup Finals, Game 4 - Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs, April 14, 1960: Montreal completes its four-game sweep of its hated rival, as Maurice "The Rocket" Richard skates with the cup to close out his NHL career. Original black-and-white broadcast from CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, called by Foster Hewitt and Bill Hewitt.
"New Year's Eve Showdown" - Soviet Central Red Army at Canadiens, December 31, 1975, Montreal Forum: In one of the most memorable exhibition games in NHL history, Vladislav Tretiak cemented his Hall of Fame credentials by stopping 35 shots and out-duelling Ken Dryden in a heart-stopping, ferocious 3-3 Cold War draw.
1977 Stanley Cup Finals Game 4, May 14, 1977, Canadiens at Boston Bruins, Boston Garden: Arguably the most dominant squad in team history, the Habs complete a sweep over Don Cherry's Bruins with Jacques Lemaire's famous OT goal. Original CBC broadcast with Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin.
"Too many men..." - 1979 Stanley Cup Semifinals Game 7, May 10, 1979, Bruins at Canadiens, Montreal Forum: With the 1970s dynasty seemingly coming to an end, a miracle happened: Don Cherry's Bruins were caught with too many men on the ice with 2:34 on the clock in the third...and the rest is history, Coach!
1984 Adams Division Final, Game 6, April 20, 1984, Quebec Nordiques at Canadiens, Montreal Forum: In one of the most memorable games in the 1980s Battles of Quebec , this one had it all. Brawls, goals, raucous crowds, and a brilliant comeback victory to knock the Nords out.
1986 Stanley Cup Finals, Game 5, May 24, 1986, Canadiens at Calgary Flames, Calgary Saddledome: Watch rookie Patrick Roy stonewall the Flames yet again, and accept the Conn Smythe trophy after a 4-3 win and a Stanley Cup championship is clinched in Calgary.
1993 Stanley Cup Finals, Game 5, June 9, 1993, L.A. Kings at Canadiens, Montreal Forum: Wrapping up a post-season run for the ages (10 overtime wins!), the Habs demoralize and destroy Wayne Gretzky's Kings with a 4-1 home-ice win and another skate-around with Lord Stanley's Cup.
"Final Game at the Forum" - March 11, 1996, Dallas Stars at Canadiens, Montreal Forum: The game was a big Habs win, but the real beauty of this disc is the emotional post-game ceremony, reuniting a host of all-time Canadiens greats, including Sam Pollock, Scottie Bowman, Guy Lapointe, Bob Gainey, Guy Lafleur, Serge Savard, Jacques Lemaire, Ken Dryden, Yvan Cournoyer, Dickie Moore, Elmer Lach, Jean Beliveau, Henri Richard, and, of course, the greatest of them all, Maurice Richard.
"Heritage Classic" - November 22, 2003, Canadiens vs. Edmonton Oilers, Commonwealth Stadium:
In one of the most memorable NHL games of the decade, more than 57,000 fans braved sub-zero temperatures to witness a thrilling 4-3 Canadiens victory in the great outdoors of the Western Canadian winter.
"Greatest Comeback in Team History" - February 19, 2008, New York Rangers at Canadiens, Bell Centre: Down 5-0 after just 25 minutes of play, the surprisingly great Canadiens of 2007-08 somehow turned it around, and capped off a wild night with a shootout victory ended by Saku Koivu.
With over 27 hours of historic, original broadcast coverage that you've likely never seen since its original airing back in the day, this is a must for any Canadiens or NHL hockey fan - and this low price, it is a steal of a value you simply can't get anywhere else!
