June 19, 1989 - Dwight Gooden becomes the third-youngest pitcher in the modern era to reach the 100 win mark. Since his dominating 276-strikeout Rookie of the Year performance in 1984, Gooden was the finest starter in the National League, helping lead his Mets to the promised land in 1986, and to the playoffs again in '88.
Soon after his 100th victory, however, the career took a disappointing turn. Shoulder problems hit, and although he was still the Mets' ace, and later an effective pitcher for the 1996 World Champion Yankees, Gooden was not the same pitcher as he was in the '80s.
This incredible poster, published during his heyday, features a classic shot of Gooden on the mound at Shea, raring back to earn his nickname, Dr. K. From Starline's classic "Solid Border" series, a rare piece that has been out of print for over a decade - only a handful of copies remain in our warehouse.
