Nominated for six Gemini awards, "Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story" follows a minor league defensemanı??s journey from obscurity to national fame as the opinionated commentator on Hockey Night In Canada, and undoubtedly one of the most recognized faces in the country. Growing up, Don Cherry (played by Gemini-nominated Jared Keeso) aspired to become a professional hockey player. After a stellar junior career, he is poised to make the big leagues but a shoulder injury banishes him to the minors. Don spends the next sixteen seasons moving his family around North America as he plays for ten different teams and encounters some of hockeyı??s most colourful characters. Don soon realizes his hockey destiny is not as a player, but as a coach. After six years behind the Boston Bruinsı?? bench, Donı??s brash style with the media and outrageous wardrobe make him a natural for television. With a little help from fate, Don finds his way on to CBC Televisionı??s beloved Hockey Night in Canada, becoming the king of Saturday night hockey. Outstanding performances, a Canadian soundtrack, and at times humorous and touching, overall this movie is a beauty, eh! The 2-disc set includes Bonus interviews with Don Cherry and exec producer/screenwriter Tim Cherry.
