In 1970, after years of minor league hockey, Buffalo established a National Hockey LeagueŽ team, the Buffalo Sabres. In 1975, the Sabres made their first appearance in the Stanley Cup Final Championship series. This was the first Final since the 1967 expansion to include two teams that were not part of the Original Six teams.
