The Mountaineers began their illustrious football history in 1891 and have won well over a dozen conference championships, recorded unbeaten and untied regular seasons in 1988 and 1993, and produced the first consecutive 11-win seasons in school history in the 2005-07 seasons. One of the most recognizable traditions of WVU football is the singing of John Denver's 'Take Me Home, Country Roads.' After every Mountaineer victory, the fans stay in the stands and sing along with the football team.
