This panorama of the Seattle Seahawks playing at Qwest Field was photographed by Robert Pettit. Qwest Field's open-air design offers views of Mount Rainier, Puget Sound, the Seattle skyline, and the Olympic Mountains. In 1975, after Seattle was awarded an NFL franchise, a contest was held to let fans pick the new club name. The Seahawk, a powerful bird in local Indian lore, was selected. In 1976, the Seahawks played their first season in the NFL as a member of the NFC West Division. In their second season they switched to the AFC West Division and, in 2002, they switched back to the NFC West. The Seahawks were the first club to have played in both AFC and NFC Championship Games.
